18 SISU MBA students and 2 staffs participated in the 2012 Breakbulk China Education Day, Feb 28, Sheraton Shanghai Hongqiao. The Education Day was held in conjunction with the 2012 Breakbulk China Conference and Exhibition Feb 29 – Mar 1, 2012 at the Sheraton and Intex Shanghai.

We were there to learn more about the Breakbulk industry as part of their second-class MBA studies with the possibility that students might consider knowing more about the business regarding their interest as career anchor and become part of the exciting breakbulk arena, replacing many people who are now retiring.
The Day was organized into two parts: five information sessions and the Career Fair. Speakers presented on topics ranging from Case studies to optimal stowage for Project cargo. The Career Fair allowed students to chat informally with representatives from companies throughout the industry to hear about what different types of companies offer their employees as career paths.
Some of the students went back Wednesday to network for internships, jobs and learn more about the industry, which enabled them to study the Program Guide to identify companies in whom they might be interested. Since in the Conference and Exhibition, there were nearly 100 companies exhibiting in the related industry.
From the feedback of some SISU attendees, they thoroughly enjoyed this educational and networking activity.
Genuine Knowledge Comes from Practice, Simulation Demonstrates Wisdom
—SISU MBA 2012 Commercial Practice Simulation Management Course
27th, Feb, the 3-day commercial simulation management course came to an end successfully in the applause of students. As part of the Sweden Week of this semester, two professors from Halmstad University, Joakim Tell and Henrik Floren, gave a vivid and informative commercial simulation training to SISU MBA students for the second time.

Commercial Simulation training is characterized with practicality, interest, interaction, and competitiveness. It stimulates students’ interest and enthusiasm and helps them memorize deeply, so that they can apply the management thoughts and knowledge in actual work.
The two professors from Halmstad University have gained plentiful experience in commercial simulation course training. They hope to bring new thought of commercial practice management to the students. There were 9 students involved in this course, 8 from MBA full-time class and 1 is international student. They were divided into two panels to compete in discussion, tasks, and challenges. All the students exerted their management knowledge, combined with their own profession and practice experience, to discuss the management strategy for a simulated company.
In the end of the activity, students gave presentations to demonstrate what they have gained and the challenges they have met during this simulation. In general, they gained various valuable commercial practice experience, and hoped to proceed this course in the future.
Both the professors and the students gave positive comments on this course:
Zhang said that, “Through 3-day commercial simulation, I have a general knowledge of making commercial plans, and learned how to assign commercial plan, which would be of great instructional significance for my future work.”
Luo said that, “Both long-term and short-term commercial plan are of great importance for operating a company. I hope the other students can take part in similar activities to improve their commercial practice ability.”

Besides, the two professors put a premium on the students’ conduct in this course. Professor Joakim Tell expressed that, “SISU MBA students are quite agile in mind. They can apply what they have learnt into this simulation. Besides, they are characterized with strong team work.” Professor Henrik Floren added that, “Their presentations were excellent. I believe they can benefit a lot from this course…”
In the end, the students showed their gratitude to the professors for their patient guidance in the three days, and took a picture together. While the two professors approved and praised the students, and gave out some presents. We have done two commercial simulation courses, both of which are quite successful and popular among students. SISU MBA Center is trying to provide more similar courses to help students apply knowledge into practice.
In Feburuary 27th, 2012, the SISU MBA center greeted its great guest Mike Danilovic, t Professor in Centre for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Learning Research in Halmstad University (Sweden).

The lecture is about introducing a new approach, Information Driven Management (IDM) and new methods, Dependence Structure Matrix (DSM) and Domain Mapping Matrix (DMM), and is to help you find a better way to understand, to analyze, then to practice.
Dr. Danilovic began his speech by telling the students the definition of complexity. Also he mentioned, in particular, for the MBAer—the potential managers in their companies, that managers should learn how to cope with uncertainty including the process design, organizational settings and product architecture.
But how to cope with those increasingly complicated systems? Dr. Danilovic brought his idea to the students: the DSM Analysis—the Matrix.

By specifying people’s work and listing them in a matrix, staff in the company will have a clear picture of what others’ doing and to avoid arousing problems to others. “Like a magic.” Commented by Guanghui Wu (2010Part-time student).Yes, think before you do—that’s the sprit Professor Danilovic is always showing us.
